Behind the Scenes: Working with Channel 4 on a Crime Scene Cleaning Documentary

We’re thrilled to share one of the most impactful moments in our journey at Clean N Bright Cleaning Services - being featured in a Channel 4 documentary about the hidden world of crime scene and trauma cleaning.

When Channel 4 approached us, we knew it was a rare opportunity to shine a light on a line of work most people never see, but one that’s vital to public health, safety, and dignity. From violent crime scenes to drug dens, this documentary pulled back the curtain on the emotionally and physically demanding situations our team faces every day.

Filming was a full-day affair. The Channel 4 cameraman was with us on-site from early morning until late afternoon, capturing everything we do from suiting up in full PPE to carefully navigating biohazardous areas and restoring properties to a safe and clean condition.

The drug den in Worksop had been left in a dangerous state, full of used needles, bodily fluids, and contaminated materials. These environments are highly unpredictable and demand strict safety protocols, but they’re also, unfortunately, a standard part of our work.

After hours of filming, we sat down for a lengthy and in-depth interview, during which we discussed the emotional toll, the technical challenges, and the human side of trauma cleaning. It wasn’t just about what we do, it was about why we do it. From the families left behind after tragedy to the landlords faced with drug-damaged properties, we’re there to provide practical help with compassion and dignity.

The programme explored a wide range of environments from across the world, including unattended deaths, hoarder homes, suicide scenes, and, notably, drug dens. These properties are often littered with hazardous sharps, contaminated paraphernalia, and biological waste. They’re dangerous, volatile, and pose serious health risks not only to the public but also to our cleaning teams.

By including drug dens in the documentary, Channel 4 helped raise awareness about how these environments impact communities and the critical role biohazard cleaners play in making them safe again.

No two jobs are ever the same, but they all require the same approach: respect, professionalism, and empathy. Whether we’re helping a landlord reclaim a property from drug activity or supporting a family after a tragic loss, we’re acutely aware that every scene carries deep emotional weight.

The film crew was incredibly respectful and sensitive to the nature of our work. Together, we worked to ensure that no one’s story was sensationalised - only humanised.

Behind every clean-up is a story. And behind every story is a person or family trying to move forward.

Drug dens reveal the harsh social realities of addiction and housing crises. They also demonstrate why specialised cleaning is essential - not just for appearance, but for public health and safety. From removing bloodborne pathogens to safely disposing of syringes, our work ensures that properties can be returned to use without risk to future occupants.

We chose to be part of this documentary because we believe in honesty, education, and breaking stigma. Trauma cleaning isn’t about sensationalism - it’s about service. It’s about helping people when they need it most, even if they never meet us.

We hope viewers walked away with a deeper understanding of what biohazard cleaning truly involves - and the people who step in when no one else can.
