Crime Scene Cleanup & Forensic Cleaning

Biohazard Removal

Clean N Bright provide specialist crime scene clean-ups and forensic cleaning following violent incidents, unattended deaths and serious crime. We are accredited by the National Association of Crime Scene Cleaners and can be on-site across South Yorkshire within two hours, 24/7.

If you have been asked to arrange this cleaning, you will be making the call at a difficult time. We carry out this work every week, and we will handle it with the proper care it needs.

For commissioning and panel enquiries (insurers, councils, facility management firms): request our documentation pack below.

What our crime scene cleaning service covers

We are commissioned by police forces, local authorities, housing providers, insurers, landlords, and private families to carry out biohazard remediation in these special circumstances. Our remit covers:

  • Scenes following violent crime, once released by the Senior Investigating Officer.
  • Unattended deaths, including extended post-mortem decomposition.
  • Suicide and self-inflicted injury.
  • Drug-related contamination, including discarded needles and paraphernalia.
  • Trauma scene cleaning in domestic and commercial premises.
  • Vehicle decontamination following incidents on the road or in private settings.
  • Communal-area cleaning in housing, hostels, and public buildings.

Our process, on every call-out

  • Site assessment and risk evaluation: On arrival, before any work begins.
  • Containment of the affected area: Isolation to prevent cross-contamination of unaffected rooms.
  • Removal of contaminated materials: Soft furnishings, flooring, fixtures and structural materials that cannot be decontaminated are bagged for licensed disposal.
  • Chemical and mechanical decontamination: All surfaces treated to industry-approved standards.
  • Deodorisation and air treatment: Can Including ozone or hydroxyl treatment for severe odour remediation where required.
  • Waste packaging and consignment: All hazardous waste packaged in approved containers and tracked through a licensed carrier.
  • Photographic record: Before, during and after, for insurance and audit purposes.
  • Documentation pack on completion: See section below for what is provided.

How we work alongside the people who call us

  • Police

We attend only once the scene has been released by the Senior Investigating Officer. We do not photograph the scene for our own use, and we do not discuss the work with anyone other than the commissioning party.

    Police

  • Family Liaison Officers and families

Where a Family Liaison Officer is in place, we will route all contact through them rather than approaching the family directly. Where families are commissioning the work themselves, we keep contact brief, factual, and practical.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who pays for crime scene cleaning?

Costs can be covered by home insurance, the commissioning landlord, or the local authority where the property is in their housing stock. In private cases, families pay directly. We can advise on the most likely route based on your situation, and we can liaise with insurers on your behalf if needed.

How quickly can you attend?

Across South Yorkshire, Doncaster, Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Wakefield, we aim to be on site within two hours of the call, 24 hours a day. For locations further afield, we will confirm timing at the point of booking.

Are you approved by the police or the coroner?

We work regularly alongside South Yorkshire Police, Family Liaison Officers, and the coroner's officers. We are accredited by the National Association of Crime Scene Cleaners. Police forces do not maintain a single approved-supplier list, but commissioning officers can request our documentation pack.

Will insurance cover the cost?

A home and commercial insurance policies could cover specialist cleaning following an insured incident. We provide all documentation in the format claims handlers require. We can speak to your insurer or loss adjuster directly if that would help.

Is the property safe to enter after you have finished?

Yes. The certificate of decontamination we issue confirms the property has been restored to a safe condition. Where appropriate, we provide ATP surface validation as additional evidence.

What happens to the waste?

All contaminated material is packaged in approved containers, collected by an Environment Agency licensed hazardous waste carrier, and incinerated. You receive the consignment note with the carrier reference for your records.

Will the property smell afterwards?

Severe odour from decomposition is the most common concern, and it is also the issue we deal with most often. Our process includes deodorisation and, where required, ozone or hydroxyl treatment, which neutralises the source of the odour rather than masking it.

What gets removed and replaced?

Any soft furnishings, flooring or structural material that has been contaminated and cannot be safely decontaminated is removed. We will walk you through what needs to be replaced before we begin, so there are no surprises.

Will you be discreet? Are your vehicles marked?

Our vehicles carry the Clean N Bright name but no description of the specific service. Operatives wear unbranded PPE for sensitive call-outs. We do not discuss the work with neighbours or anyone other than the commissioning party.

Do you work outside South Yorkshire?

Our core response area is Doncaster, Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Wakefield. We do attend further afield by arrangement, particularly for insurance and FM-commissioned work.

  • John Freestone

    Group Safety Compliance Manager

“A huge thanks to Clean N Bright who carried out a large scale clean of our stands at Doncaster Racecourse. Not only did they carry out the work at short notice, but they did so efficiently and with professionalism. When I needed assistance with other areas of work, they rose to the challenge.”

  • Toni Fenning

“Clean N Bright is an amazing company. We worked with them over the summer to clean our entire auditorium, which is a feat in itself, at 620 seats. The team were absolutely incredible, they went above and beyond. It’s really great to work with a local company that cares so much about the Arts Theatre and just everybody in general.”
