It came in at lunchtime from a facilities Management company responsible for a multi-occupancy commercial building in South Yorkshire. A significant wastewater flood had occurred following a drainage system failure, affecting multiple ground-floor areas and creating an immediate health and safety risk for occupants. The client required an urgent response to contain the contamination, restore the affected areas, and minimise disruption to the building's operations. The brief was straightforward: "We need it cleaned, sanitised, and back in service as quickly as possible."
Our Approach
A rapid site assessment was completed on arrival. Contaminated wastewater had spread. Standing water was present throughout the affected zones, with contamination extending beneath lower areas. The incident presented a water contamination risk due to the presence of sewage and associated pathogens. Immediate containment measures were required to prevent further spread and to protect unaffected sections of the building.
The protocol
Clean N Bright mobilised a specialist response team within hours of the initial call. A controlled work zone was established with clear segregation between contaminated and clean areas. Operatives deployed full PPE, including protective coveralls, gloves, footwear protection, and respiratory equipment where required. Standing wastewater was extracted using commercial wet-vacuum systems before all affected surfaces underwent a structured decontamination process. Hard surfaces were deep cleaned and treated with hospital-grade disinfectants, while contaminated absorbent materials were assessed for removal and disposal where necessary. Throughout the operation, close communication was maintained with the Facilities Management team, providing progress updates and documentation at every stage.
The outcome
The emergency response commenced within hours of notification. All contaminated areas were cleaned, sanitised, and restored within 24 hours of the initial call. Following the final inspection, the building was handed back to the Facilities Management company safe, clean, and ready for normal occupancy. Business disruption was minimised, health risks were eliminated, and the client was able to maintain operational continuity without prolonged closure.
