Overview
On Friday morning, the school experienced an unusually high level of pupil and staff illness, resulting in widespread absences across multiple year groups. Following advice from local health authorities, the school was instructed not to reopen until its buildings had undergone a full disinfectant fogging treatment to reduce the risk of further illness transmission.
With classes scheduled to resume on Monday, the school required an urgent, professional deep-clean solution that could be mobilised within 24 hours.
The school faced several challenges, including an urgent turnaround that required the entire building to be fully sanitised before Monday. The large site layout added complexity, with multiple classrooms, corridors, toilets, kitchen areas, and communal spaces needing attention. Strict health and safety requirements also had to be met, as the cleaning process needed to comply with Public Health England guidance to ensure a safe environment for children. Additionally, access time was limited, with all work needing to be completed on Saturday to allow sufficient ventilation before staff returned on Sunday.
Our Solution
Our commercial cleaning team deployed an emergency response crew on Saturday morning. The service included:
- Initial Site Assessment - Conducted a walkthrough with the school caretaker to identify high-risk zones. Implemented safety preparations, including posting warning signage and isolating fogging areas.
- Antiviral Fogging - Used professional-grade ULV (Ultra-Low Volume) fogging machines. Applied a certified antiviral disinfectant proven to eliminate 99.99% of viruses and bacteria.
- Post-Fogging Ventilation & Safety Checks - Ventilated all rooms for the required time period. Performed a final safety inspection to ensure the building was safe to reoccupy. Provided a digital completion certificate and COSHH documentation.
Outcome
The entire site was fully fogged and sanitised within the same day. The school was cleared for reopening by Sunday afternoon. Staff and parents were reassured that the environment was safe for pupils' return. No further closures were required the following week.
